Enhnace Student Achievement and Promote Educational Excellence
Close Achievement Gaps
By the end of October 2006, the board will appoint a task force that involves appropriate school staff, parents and community members to establish a clear, concise vision statement defining what closing these gaps specifically means to the district and to advise the board regarding strategic goals to implement this vision.
By end of February 2007, the district will have developed a draft plan of action extending across the next few years to close these achievement gaps. The plan of action will include recommendations to the board by March 2007 that has measurable objectives, timelines for activities and progress checkpoints.
Assess and Strengthen Academic Guidance and Counseling
The district will assess and implement the best ways to help students enroll and succeed in courses most appropriate to fulfill the potential of each student. The district will systematically and supportively involve parents with those choices and activities that support such student decision-making and achievement. This assessment and implementation will use a collaborative process that includes counselors, parents, students, teachers and administrators.
This goal will: enhance the ability of our guidance and counseling system to reach each student and ensure that all students are placed in courses that maximize their potential and interests; ensure all students have equitable opportunities to be in college preparatory courses and/or high level career and technical courses; examine AP prerequisites and procedures to support full access by those wanting the course/s; support all students as appropriate so that they complete UC a-g and/or CSU requirements for admission; examine and create, as appropriate, processes for monitoring and communicating to appropriate persons the academic progress of students and student under achievement relative to the potential of the students.
