FLAP Immersion Collaborative/District Advisory Committee

During the first half of the 2008-2009 school year, a group of parent and district representatives was confirmed as voting members of the FLAP district-level Immersion Collaborative/Advisory Committee to work on the tasks necessary to arrive at recommendations for the adoption of an updated Master Plan for the Spanish Immersion Program.

The committee's target is to have a review draft ready by June 1st, 2009; allow for public review through the summer months, and submit the Master Plan document to the Board by March of 2010.

Your input is appreciated and the whole immersion community is invited to participate in this process. Please see our district's Events Listings for upcoming meeting times and locations.

Spanish Immersion Parents

As Chair of the newly formed FLAP Immersion Collaborative/District Advisory Committee, I would like to extend a broad invitation to all parents to become a part of the process.  We serve under the district within the FLAP (Foreign Language Assistance Program) grant to bring community (parents, teachers & administration) collaboration.  Our main goal presently is to create a new SI Master Plan document to replace the former plan passed in 1993.

In order to accomplish this task, we will need input from all involved.  We extend invitation & welcome you.  Please either contact a representative to voice your opinions or feel free to attend our meetings.  The district website at http://www.djusd.net/learn/spanish-immersion has a great deal of information to see where we have been & where we are going.  You can find the schedule of our meetings for the next year.

Committee members:

Parents=Karen Mo, Tom Adams, Karen Hamilton, Lorilyn Parmer-Folks, Bob Bain

Teachers=EJH: Deborah Ottman; MME: Elizabeth Castro; CCE: Maite Sureda, Lynn Angelo (alternate), Sonia Ponce (alternate)

Administrators=Denise Beck, Shelly Wickwire

Staff=Claudia Barba (FLAP manager), Maria MacNeil

Sincerely,

Karen Mo
