The Green Schools Initiative is supported by numerous local organizations that work with DJUSD to develop and promote environmental education and outreach.
Partners include:
- City of Davis - As a leader in environmental causes at the local level, the city has a number of green programs such as Cool Davis and The Low-Carbon Diet.
- RISE - Davis RISE is a partnership that is committed to reducing
solid waste at our schools. “Recycling Is Simply Elementary” is now
a working model promoted by California State PTA Resolution for
school waste reduction. For DJUSD: We look forward to continuing our work to educate 21st-century graduates with 21st-century knowledge of environmental
science, and a commitment to recycling and waste reduction. - Davis Farm to School Connection - The mission of the Davis Farm to School Connection is to create an educational and cultural environment in our schools that connects food choices with personal health, community, farms, and land.
- Los Rios GreenForce - Our community college district offers green tech courses that lead to careers in solar, alternative fuels, energy audits, water management, and more. See a list of courses.
- UC Davis - The university has vast resources dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability, including the John Muir Institute for the Environment, Energy Efficiency Center, California Lighting Technology Center, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Research Center, Program for International Energy Technologies, and Western Cooling Efficiency Center.
- PG&E - Local utility PG&E has provided significant funding for Green School Initiative projects.
