Spanish Immersion Information

The Davis Joint Unified School District’s Spanish Immersion Program began in the 1982-83 school year with one class of kindergarten and first grade students. The program has flourished and grown over the years. Currently, our program serves over 740 students, spread through three campuses; our K-6 whole-immersion site, César Chávez Elementary, a K-3 satellite immersion strand at Marguerite Montgomery Elementary, and secondary Spanish immersion classes (language and Social Studies) in grades 7th through 9th at Emerson Junior High School.

In 2007, our district received a federal (FLAP) grant and is in the process of updating our Spanish Immersion Program and drafting a new Master Plan. The purpose of a Master Plan is to guide the development of program policies and practices. This Spanish Immersion Master Plan provides the Davis Board of Education, the school district administration and Spanish Immersion community with a framework to assess accomplishments and challenges and determine the program’s direction.
