Important Note: Before establishing any student accounts in a third party website as linked below, review DJUSD Internet Policy, particularly page 10-11. Make sure parents are assured access to all content posted by your students, including e-mail and blog accounts, and the planning and conduct of the classroom activity is in full compliance with district policy.

Why Web 2.0? A video on exactly this topic can be found by clicking on the question!
Web 2.0 technologies are best learned using Web 2.0 technologies; learn it by interacting with colleagues using interactive tools freely available on the Web. Teachers Darren Draper (Utah) and Robin Ellis (Pennsylvania) host collaborative learning experiences over the web through their wiki, OpenPD.
In addition to the scheduled SD events, their website contains videos, links to Web 2.0 blogs, suggestions for wiki use, and much more. Play their introductory video at the link above to learn more about OpenPD.
OpenPD is affiliated with another group of educators working together online,
K-12 Online Conference. You can find links to many of their Web 2.0 presentations by going to this link, which also holds the schedule for upcoming events.

______________________________________________________________Blogs
Blogging allows for community stream-of-consciousness, a chance to thoughtfully develop ideas in community conversation. There are various sources of blog-publishing, but a particularly powerful resource is provided by Edublogs, a not-for-profit resource specifically designed for educators and their students. In addition to its free services, Edublogs hosts paid accounts which give teachers full access to management of content posted by students in their personal blogs. Edublogs hosts text and video tutorials.
A tutorial for the WordPress blogging website can be found at
For those of you who get bored with letting the blog editors tell you what your site is going to look like, maybe it's time to try your hand at HTML. Visit our Web Building Tutorials page for relief of your frustrations.

Her video features the use of the service, classblogmeister, and the teaching/learning opportunities blogging offers to her first graders.
Wikis
In time, this website will be host to links to wikis produced by Davis educators working together to create and share curricular resources.
So, what's a wiki? It is a website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively. In a district with both time and geographic barriers to collaboration, wikis provide online collaborative spaces to share information, methods and practice.
To get a sense of the role a wiki can play in collaboration, take a look at this TeacherTube video:
