Cathy Scarr has been the teacher for our family at the Davis School for Independent Study (DSIS) for five years.  We would like to let the DJUSD community know what a teaching gem it has here at DSIS.  Cathy’s intelligence spreads across multiple disciplines, and her creativity in generating projects is boundless.  She moves with ease between kindergarteners and 12th graders, with the ability to guide all students, not only in academic lessons but in life lessons, as well.  Her energy and humor are contagious, and she motivates all of us to continue improving and learning.  Her concern for each student’s life is palpable, and her effort shows in her students’ lives.

"I am so grateful to have the opportunity to thank the teachers and staff at Harper Jr. High School-- for all of their help and support.

A special thank you goes out to Ms. Jennifer Fung and Mr. Nicholas Gallandet, for their dedication and support towards my child's academic success.

Ms. Fung and Mr. Gallandet volunteer their time after school everyday-- to help tutor students. My son went from F's in 7th Grade to straight A's in 8th. He is currently in 9th Grade and thanks to the Homework Club--he is doing well.

We owe it all to the dedication and kindness of the teachers and staff at Harper Jr. High. Thank you so very much!"

Two celebrations for Willett Teacher Gregory Miller:

"Gregory L. Miller, 4th grade teacher (new to Willett Elementary last year) is a funny, kind, smart teacher, who all the kids love. He cannot be found without a flock of kids surrounding him. He makes learning fun, and is generally inspiring to be around. Mr. Miller not only takes your child in as his family, but he takes your whole entire family in as his family. He is a warm soul.

Judy Catambay and family"

and

"My son (and our whole family) were very blessed to have Mr. Miller as our son's fourth grade teacher at Willett. Mr. Miller understood Tyler's learning style immediately and was able to present each lesson in a fun, enjoyable way where the kids didn't even realize the volume of information they were actually learning. Mr. Miller "warned" each family at the beginning of the school year that we are "stuck" with him for life as he devotes himself to the education and welfare of each of his students for forever! The best part is that he means it. :) Mr. Miller is an expert in his field and is an absolutely amazing teacher. I mean, how many teachers do you know that will dress like this for a history lesson ;)"
