Bike Safety Reminders

It’s an exciting time of year for some of our students achieving the milestone of riding to school without an adult. We encourage families to review and discuss the rules of the road and the laws that apply to traditional bicycles and electric bikes (e-bikes)/scooters, which are becoming increasingly popular among students in our community. While these forms of transportation offer convenience and independence, they also come with important responsibilities. Understanding how to safely operate them helps prevent accidents and ensures students travel safely to and from school. Make sure your student has a properly fitting helmet and a secure bike lock. If you are unable to purchase a helmet for your student, reach out to your front office.

Here are some reminders:

  • Helmets are required for all riders
  • Elementary and junior high schools: e-scooters are not permitted. Only Class 1 e-bikes are permitted
  • High schools: E-scooter riders must be 15 ½ or older and have a valid permit or driver’s license.
