CDPH and the District will continue to strongly recommend that both vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff continue to wear a face covering while indoors. This guidance represents a shift in the public health philosophy from the mandated protection for all, to a focus on personal protection based on the risk to each individual and/or their families.

On March 3, the Board of Education discussed the new CDPH guidance, relevant considerations and determined that DJUSD will remove the indoor mask mandate throughout the District effective Monday April 11, 2022. This date was chosen to provide students and staff time to make health-related decisions, prepare for the changing policy and protect against a possible COVID-19 surge following spring break. The new guideline applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff.

DJUSD will continue many of the important COVID-19 mitigation measures currently in place, including the use of HEPA air filters in all classrooms, upgraded HVAC filters, weekly onsite testing, ongoing reminders about healthy habits and providing free high-quality face masks to staff and students.

We know that changes in public health policy may be stressful; please be patient as we determine the protocols to ensure the continued health and safety of everyone in our schools, and remember to be kind to school staff who are responsible for implementing these protocols. We appreciate your ongoing patience and support for all DJUSD students and staff.
