DJUSD Benefit Contribution Caps

DJUSD provides a monthly contribution toward employee benefits in accordance with collective bargaining agreements. Contribution caps are negotiated separately by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the Davis Teachers Association (DTA) and may vary by bargaining unit and benefit tier.

Medical Benefits

District contribution caps apply to medical insurance premiums only. The District contribution toward medical coverage is not reduced by the cost of dental, vision, or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits.

The annual District contribution is established based on:

  • Bargaining unit (CSEA or DTA)
  • Coverage tier
  • Employee FTE (Full-Time Equivalent)

Work Calendar Proration

Employees who work a 10, 11, or 12-month schedule receive the same total District contribution based on their bargaining unit, benefit tier, and FTE. The District contribution is adjusted throughout the year to account for differing work calendars so that eligible employees receive the full annual contribution available to them by the end of their work year.

FTE Proration

District contributions are prorated based on an employee's assigned FTE.

  • Employees with a 1.0 FTE receive the full District contribution available for their bargaining unit and coverage tier.
  • Employees with an FTE less than 1.0 receive a prorated District contribution based on their assigned FTE.
  • Employees participating in the STRS Workforce Reduction Program may be eligible for District contributions that are not reduced in accordance with program provisions.

Contributions Begin with Coverage

Employees begin receiving District contributions when they become enrolled in benefits and begin making employee premium contributions. District contributions are provided only for the months in which an employee is enrolled in eligible benefits.

For example, an employee who is enrolled in benefits for six months during the year is eligible to receive six months of District contributions.

Benefit Contribution Caps

The contribution caps shown below identify the maximum District contribution available for each benefit category:

Dental and Vision Contributions

DJUSD provides a District contribution that covers 100% of the employee-only premium for Dental and Vision benefits.

Employees who elect to enroll eligible dependents in Dental or Vision coverage are responsible for paying the additional premium required for dependent coverage. Any employee contribution shown in the tables below reflects the cost of adding dependents beyond the employee-only coverage level.

The monthly employee contribution varies based on:

  • The selected coverage tier
  • Whether dependents are enrolled
  • The employee's work calendar (10-, 11-, or 12-month)

Because 10- and 11-month employees receive fewer paychecks during the year but maintain coverage year-round, their annual premium costs are spread across fewer payroll periods. As a result, monthly employee contributions may be higher than those of a 12-month employee enrolled in the same coverage level.

This process is known as blending. For more information on how premiums are distributed across payroll periods, please refer to the Blended Rates Explained section.

The tables below show the estimated monthly employee contributions for Dental and Vision coverage by coverage tier and work calendar.
