Overview


The Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) is committed to fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and community engagement. As part of this commitment, the DJUSD is proud to introduce the Values In Action Award Program, aimed at regularly celebrating individuals and entities within the DJUSD community who have made outstanding contributions and to honor those who have "gone above and beyond" to support and enhance the work of promoting the fulfillment of our Strategic Plan and DJUSD Graduate Profile. This program seeks to recognize the efforts of students, staff, parents/guardians/caregivers, and community partners in advancing the core values and goals of the DJUSD.

Nominating Categories and Schedule

The Values In Action Awards Program encompasses five distinct categories for nominations:

  • Students (sub-categories: Tk-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12)
  • Classified Staff - includes maintenance/custodial personnel, food service staff, paraprofessionals, administrative assistants and other support staff
  • Certificated Staff - includes teachers, counselors, nurses, psychologists, and other licensed school service personnel, district-level administrators, principals or other administrators
  • Parents, guardians and caregivers
  • Community Partners - includes groups or partnerships that work with our schools or students

The nomination process for the Values In Action Awards occurs three times a year, providing ample opportunities for recognition. Nominations are accepted in November, February and April of each calendar year.

Nominated Recipient Criteria
DJUSD Values in Action Awards are given to individuals/organizations embodying the shared values of the Davis Joint Unified School District and demonstrating outstanding efforts that celebrate:

Criterion 1: The cultural contributions and identities in our school communities.

OR

Criterion 2: The work of our DJUSD 2023-2028 Strategic Plan and the 4 Goals for Student Success.

Goal #1 - Well-being and Belonging: Contributions to creating a positive and inclusive school community where every student feels a sense of belonging and is supported in their social-emotional, physical, and mental well-being.

Goal #2 - Equitable Access and Opportunity: Efforts to ensure that every student has equitable access to resources, support systems, and experiences necessary to address opportunity gaps and achieve academic and personal milestones.

Goal #3 - Engagement and Continuous Academic Growth: Initiatives that promote student engagement, goal-setting, acquisition of foundational skills, and ongoing academic growth toward realizing their full potential.

Goal #4 - Confident Graduates, Prepared for Life: Contributions to preparing every graduate for post-secondary life through diverse learning experiences and the acquisition of competencies outlined in the DJUSD Graduate Profile.

Nomination Process
Any DJUSD employee, student, parent/guardian, community member, or organization is eligible to submit nominations. However, self-nominations and anonymous nominations are not accepted to ensure the integrity of the selection process. Violation of District policy or procedure may lead to disqualification. 

Nominations can be submitted through online nomination forms available on the DJUSD Values In Action Awards website. The deadline for submissions will be communicated in advance for each nomination cycle.

Recognition Committee
The DJUSD Values In Action Awards Committee is responsible for selecting recipients from the pool of nominations. This committee is composed of representatives from district administration, a board member and two student representatives.

The Values In Action Awards Program reflects DJUSD's dedication to acknowledging and celebrating the outstanding contributions of individuals and entities within our community. Through this program, we honor those who embody our shared values and demonstrate a commitment to the success and well-being of all students. By recognizing excellence, we inspire continued collaboration and collective efforts toward achieving our strategic goals and nurturing a thriving learning environment within the DJUSD.
