Kindergarten
kinder kidsYour student is eligible for Kindergarten in the 2026-27 school year if their birthday falls between September 2, 2020 and September 1, 2021. DJUSD transitioned to a full-day kindergarten program at all elementary sites for the 2025-26 school year. This important development will allow DJUSD to better meet the needs of our kindergarten students and families.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
little kidsYour student is eligible for TK in the 2026-27 school year if their birthday falls between September 2, 2021 and September 1, 2022. Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) is an early learning program designed to give all 4-year-olds in California a strong start before entering kindergarten. Under Assembly Bill 130, California expanded access so that by the 2025–26 school year, every child who turns 4 by September 1 was eligible to attend TK. This program bridges preschool and kindergarten by offering developmentally appropriate, play-based learning that supports social, emotional, and academic growth—helping children build confidence and readiness for success in school. DJUSD’s TK program is half-day with some sessions offered in the morning, and some in the afternoon.

Families may apply for an Intradistrict Transfer to attend a TK or Kindergarten site other than their attendance/neighborhood area. Requests to transfer to another school are approved based upon space availability in the requested grade level and program (includes Special Education) at the requested school.
