Yolo Teacher Residency Program

teacher and class

Earn your credential while gaining valuable classroom experience in an apprenticeship while receiving tuition reimbursement.

Innovative Approach

Yolo Teacher Residency (YTR) is a two year intensive education specialist credential program with the option of an additional Master of Arts in Special Education Teacher year.  Our residents are change agents who become leaders addressing equity and social justice issues for students with disabilities and their families within our local Yolo County communities.  Giving them the tools they need to make an immediate impact in the classrooms of Yolo County Schools, which include:

  • Davis Joint Unified School District
  • Esparto Unified School District

  • Washington Unified School District (West Sacramento)

  • Winters Unified School District

  • Woodland Joint Unified School District

  • Yolo County Office of Education.

The YTR collaboration between Sac State and Yolo County Office of Education offers more than $16,000 for residents in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), Mild to Moderate, and Moderate to Severe special education credential YTR programs and upon graduation, priority hiring in Yolo County school districts. Residents work closely with their YTR mentor during sustained and rigorous fieldwork, trainings that cultivate their relationship, and experiences that make teaching and inclusive practices explicit.

If you are a special education para-educator in a Yolo County School District you may be eligible to continue in your position while completing the program!

A Strong Foundation

During the two years of service, Teacher Residents:
  • Co-teach with collaborating teachers and experienced teacher educators
  • Earn CA Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Special Education - Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe or Early Childhood.
