RIBBON CUTTING AND OPEN HOUSE FOR THE EARLY LEARNING CENTER AT KOREMATSU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Posted on 09/14/2021

DAVIS, CA -- On Monday, September 13 at 5:00 p.m., the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) celebrated the opening of the new Early Learning Center (ELC) preschool campus at Korematsu Elementary as part of the DJUSD Bond Program.

Due to the existing public health concerns, the ribbon cutting was limited to the DJUSD Board of Education, Interim Superintendent Matt Best, DJUSD staff, the Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee, and the project’s architect and construction management teams.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community for their overwhelming support of our students through the passage of the Measure M Facilities Bond,” says Interim Superintendent Matt Best. “This has allowed us to build this beautiful facility and invest in our District’s youngest students.”

On March 19, 2020, the DJUSD Board of Education approved the Early Learning Center at Korematsu Elementary as a Signature Project, prioritizing it to be completed as soon as possible with Measure M funds of nearly $7 million.

This Bond Project includes seven classrooms, a playground with shade, an expanded parking lot and the new student drop-off/pick-up area that will be available to all students campus-wide. While two DJUSD preschool classes will remain at the Valley Oak campus, the new ELC will increase the total number of DJUSD preschool classrooms in Davis by two.
