How to Enroll in Choice Programs

DJUSD offers eight choice school programs: four elementary schools, one junior high, one high school, one continuation high school, and one school for independent study. All enrollment documents need to be submitted to the enrollment department at the District Office either in person (526 B street) or via email at [email protected]

Applications for DaVinci Charter or DSIS (Davis School for Independent Study) need to be submitted to the program directly and approved before enrolling.

Already actively enrolled students at another school site will need to submit an intra-district transfer request form and an application. New students (TK-6) must submit an application with a complete enrollment packet to be consideredPlease note, only one application per student is permitted.

If more students apply than space is available after students with enrollment priorities for that school are placed, the remaining DJUSD resident students will be entered in a lottery. The lottery process is as follows:

1. Lottery is witnessed by school principal, district Enrollment Specialist, Director of Elementary education
2. Student names entered in a list randomizer which assigns a number to each student
3. Once randomization is finished the list is signed by the lottery witnesses
4. As space becomes available, students are taken off the waitlist according to their assigned number

Once ALL DJUSD resident students are placed, inter-district transfer students will be considered.

2025-26 Choice Program Applications
Applications for all elementary choice programs for the 2025-26 school year are still available, however, some programs are full and are placing applicants on a waiting list. If interested in a choice program for the 2025-26 school year, you will need to complete the programs application to be considered.

2026-27 Choice Program Applications
We will start accepting applications for the 2026-27 school year when enrollment opens on Monday January 26, 2026. All applications will be due by Friday February 20, 2026 to be included in the if necessary lottery on Thursday February 26, 2026. We will continue accepting applications and placing students if space allows or on a waitlist.

Families are allowed to apply for only ONE choice school/program per student.

Any student eligible to attend DJUSD may register in the Spanish Language Immersion Program at César Chávez Elementary (CCE), regardless of language background.  If there is space, students in grades second through sixth must go through an assessment process conducted at the school site.

Students of varying abilities and needs contribute to the diversity of the community. Parents should understand that becoming bilingual (exhibiting cognitive, academic and linguistic benefits of immersion) takes approximately seven years in an intense learning environment. It is the
refore desirable for students to participate through the sixth grade.

DJUSD resident students who have a sibling at Chavez for the 2025-26 school year are given enrollment priority however, many grade levels are currently full and applicants will be placed on a waiting list.  Once all DJUSD resident students are placed, inter-district transfer students will be considered.

If you want your child to have native speaker priority, make sure the box is checked on the application.  You will be contacted by Cesar Chavez staff to set up an assessment appointment if needed.

Two-Way Bilingual Spanish Immersion (TWBI) at Marguerite Montgomery Elementary
The best practice structure of a TWBI program is to have a balance of native Spanish and native English speakers so that students, as well as teachers, will serve as language models for each other. Students will be enrolled in TWBI using policies that help achieve as much balance as possible between these target language groups.

Interested TK and Kindergarten families should complete the TWBI application and register in person at the District Office or submit via e-mail to [email protected]

Students will be enrolled according the following priority (in order):
1.  DJUSD resident students who have a sibling at MME for the 2025-26 school year.
2.  DJUSD resident students who are native Spanish speakers.

If more students apply than space is available after siblings and native Spanish speakers are enrolled, the remaining DJUSD resident students are placed on a waiting list. Students will be placed off the waitlist until the grade level reaches a 60% English-speaking/40% Spanish-speaking ratio.

Once all DJUSD resident students are placed, inter-district transfer students will be considered.

If you have a student who is older than Kindergarten and wish to learn about TWBI enrollment, your child must go through an assessment at the school site.
