Kindergarten
kinder kidsWe are excited to share that, for the first time, our District will be moving to a full day kindergarten program at all elementary sites. This important development will allow DJUSD to better meet the needs of our kinder students and families.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
little kids

The Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 established TK which offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum for young students and builds a strong foundation for school success. The program will follow the DJUSD calendar.  TK classes are three hours and twenty minutes a day during either a morning or afternoon. DJUSD offers TK programs at Birch Lane, Cesar Chavez, Korematsu, Montgomery, North Davis, Patwin, Pioneer and Willett elementary schools.

Your child is eligible for TK or Kindergarten if:

  • TK: Turn five (5) between September 2, 2025 and September 1, 2026
  • Kindergarten: Turn five (5) on or before September 1, 2025
  • Not eligible: Born after September 1, 2021

Families may apply for an Intradistrict Transfer to attend a TK or Kindergarten site other than their attendance/neighborhood area. Requests to transfer to another school are approved based upon space availability in the requested grade level and program (includes Special Education) at the requested school.
