Health and Wellness Checks

Check for Signs and Symptoms of Illness screening image

Everyone who is sick is expected to stay home.

Self-screening for symptoms is an important part of identifying illness to reduce the spread and are based on local, state, and national health orders and guidance. Parents, students, and staff should use the Daily Illness Screening Checklist (Spanish) every day at home before going to school to make sure they are well enough to attend school/work.

  • Look for signs of illness in yourself or your child: flushed, sweaty, tired, etc.
  • Ask about symptoms: sore throat, stomach ache, headache, etc.
  • Take a temperature
  • If any symptoms of illness or risk factors are identified, the student/staff is expected to stay home from school and test for COVID-19
  • Staff must report positive COVID-19 cases to [email protected] or fill out the form found here.

Promoting Healthy Hygiene Practices

Students, staff, and visitors on DJUSD campuses must engage in frequent hand washing.

  • Wash hands with soap and water (warm or cold), rub thoroughly for 20 seconds, use paper towels to dry hands thoroughly
  • Use fragrance-free hand sanitizer when handwashing is not practicable (rub sanitizer into hands until dry)
  • Must wash hands with soap and water before eating, after using the restroom, and when hands are visibly dirty
  • Monitor use of hand sanitizer for students < 9 years old
  • All individuals should wash hands at home before going to a DJUSD site and after returning home

Face Coverings mask image

Per DJUSD policy, it is strongly recommended that students, staff, volunteers, and visitors on DJUSD sites wear a face covering. The face covering:

  • Should cover nose & mouth
  • Should fit snuggly around the sides of the face
  • Should be a high-quality mask such as a KN95, KF94, N95
  • DJUSD will provide masks, as needed

See updated CDPH Face Covering Guidance - May 2023 for more information.
