Public Information Office

The Public Information Office is a part of the Office of the Superintendent. DJUSD's Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for directing and managing District communications and public relations while ensuring strategies are in alignment with the District’s vision, mission and goals. Our office works in concert with schools, administrative divisions, community groups and individuals to provide information of interest to the school community. 

Primary functions include:

Centralized Emergency Communications
The Public Information Office provides accurate, consistent and timely information disseminated to appropriate audiences in urgent situations.  For more information about emergency communications and school safety, please visit our Safety website.
Media Contact and Support
The Public Information Officer is the primary media contact and official spokesperson for the district, managing publicity and public relations consultation to site and program administrators.

The Public Information Office is responsible for building an effective communications network within the district and community by disseminating diverse information about Board of Education policies, school programs and services, as well as initiatives, innovations and accomplishments.

The Public Information Office manages official channels of district communication including:

Strategic Communications Support
The Public Information Officer acts as advisor to the Superintendent and administrators on policies and procedures and serves on committees and ad hoc groups as necessary. 

The Public Information Officer is a member of the District Leadership Team and provides direction and consultation for media interviews, communication strategies as well as outreach and communication systems training.
School Site Engagement and Promotion

In addition to building an effective communication network for the District, the Public Information Office also supports communication for our schools. This includes providing support of the following:

  • School websites
  • School social media channels 
  • Promotion of school events and opportunities 
  • Media contact and support
  • Emergency messaging and other communication support
Public Records Requests
The District adheres to the California Public Records Act which requires that governmental records shall be disclosed to the public, upon request, unless there is a specific reason not to do so. Beginning in the 2020-21 school year, Public Records Act Requests will be handled by the DJUSD Public Information Office.
